Meet Captain Josh
In 2015, I sailed for the first time on a 38ft cruising catamaran as crew in the British Virgin Islands. I later took the US Sailing Basic Keelboat course on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA. I became heavily involved in amateur racing on small boats and cruising on monohulls and catamarans up to 45ft. In 2022, the Marine Corps relocated me to the DC Metro area for service at the Pentagon, where I became an instructor with DC Sail coaching on Flying Scots and racing Flying Juniors and instructing at JWorld in Annapolis, MD.
In 2024, I signed on with NauticEd as a private instructor to provide more personalized training, international credentialing, and captain charter in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. As a Marine, I learned to love the joy of teaching and training others. Coaching allows me to combine the joy of teaching others with my passion for sailing. I love watching new students learn to operate a sailboat safely and effectively while they pursue their interest or dream of sailing. Read Capt. Josh’s NauticEd Profile »
Captain Josh’s Qualifications:
Training & Certification
You, your goals, your boat – are all unique. No “one-size fits all” approach will prepare you for the challenges you face. My approach is unique in that I want to help you turn your dreams into reality, not just fill seats in a class. Based on your own goals, I will break down the action steps and critical skills you will need and design a training plan to help you grow through and conquer each challenge. If you’re looking to charter internationally and get licensed, acquire more advanced skills, or even just focus on specific fundamentals and competencies, Contact Capt. Josh to discuss your goals and the best ways to accomplish them.
We partner with NauticEd because they offer the best and most flexible training and elearning resources, the highest U.S. and International standards, and most importantly, a commitment to boater safety and competency that’s earned through knowledge, skill training, and experience. This allows us to tailor a full range of comprehensive resources to a student’s needs – whether that’s just getting started, owning a boat, chartering, and even advanced offshore skills.
3 Easy Steps for Training and Assessment
Start by discussing your sailing goals and experience
Contact Captain Josh to discuss your sailing goals, past training, and experience – so that Captain Josh can tailor the training to your needs.
Begin the online theory-knowledge courses immediately!
Online knowledge-theory courses have been proven in education and business to be more effective than traditional means, and NauticEd’s online courses are best-in-class in boating. A big advantage is that you can begin immediately, giving you more time to prepare and, most importantly, spend more time on the water to train practical boating skills.
On-water Training, Assessment & Certification
Captain Josh’s on-the-water training is focused on the application of knowledge-theory and skills building. The training is tailored to your needs and goals, including an emphasis on hands-on sailing experience, seamanship, and competence.
Certification is optional and includes a thorough assessment of your skills, safety, and overall competence for each level. Capt. Josh can assess while training, or you can schedule an assessment.
